LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Teachers and students at Lafayette Catholic School System are getting laptops at the start of the 2014- 2015 school year.

The laptops will be given to students in grades 7-12.

The school will provide the laptops, which will be cycled out every four years. The school will train teachers and a handful of students on how to use them prior to the school year.

The system’s Director of Technology Joe Willmann said those students will then train other students once school begins. Willmann said the laptops will give students and teachers another resource to use within the classroom.

“We talk a lot about the tool, but it’s really about the things that is going to empower. I think this is really going to empower our teachers to do a lot more inquiry,” said Willmann.

The laptops mean an additional technology fee with school tuition. However, Willmann said the fee is cheaper than parents buying the laptops themselves. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
