Traffic stop leads to meth arrest

MIAMI CO, Ind. (WLFI) – Two people are arrested on preliminary methamphetamine charges after a traffic stop in Miami County Sunday.

Indiana State Police said they stopped a 17-year-old girl for speeding on Main Street in Peru, Ind. They said Peter Buffington, 22, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Troopers said they first smelled a “chemical odor.” Troopers later found methamphetamine and items associated with making meth in the car.

According to ISP’s investigation, the two individuals had been at a campground trying to manufacture meth. They said their attempts failed, and they left the campground.

Buffington is being held in the Miami County Jail.
