West Lafayette opposing utility rate increase

Indiana America Water

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Another water rate increase has the City of West Lafayette making sure the rate is hiked only the fair amount.

Mayor John Dennis said Indiana American Water is wanting to raise the rate another 17 percent. In 2012 the company wanted to raise it 70 percent, and the city got it down to a 30 percent increase.

The city is preparing for another rate case in opposition of the rate increase. Dennis said the case will make the company show what the increased rate would be for.

“[The rate case] will require Indiana American [Water] to go ahead and go through their process to validate what their using it for, what the capital increase is going to be and what they’re going to do with that additional revenue,” Dennis said.

The city will present its case to the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission. A date for the argument is not set.
