In the report, Irsay’s vehicle was going 10 mph in a 35 mph hour zone on Main Street west of Ditch Road. Eventually, the officer pulled over the vehicle, a 2013 Toyota Highlander, because it made a right turn without using a turn signal.
The officer identified the driver as Jim Irsay and thought he was drunk. Irsay told the officer he hadn’t been drinking, but had taken prescription pills, according to the report.
When Irsay was asked for his license, he opened a briefcase and the officer observed pill bottles along with his wallet. Although the license was visible to the officer, Irsay appeared to have a hard time finding it.
Officers say when Irsay got out of the car they had to hold him up to keep him from falling over.
Irsay was preliminarily charged with operating while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance.
No charges have yet been filed against Irsay. His initial court date of Wednesday, March 26 was postponed and has yet to be rescheduled.
