TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – A Tippecanoe County road was shut down for about an hour Friday evening after deputies say reckless driving caused a Lafayette man to catapult through the air and crash into some trees.

Nearby homeowners told News 18, it sounded like a bomb went off.

The car ended upside down in the road shortly before 6:30 p.m. Incredibly the driver, 24-year-old Joshua Dilden, was able to get himself out of the vehicle and has only minor abrasions and bruising.

It happened on County Road 200 South, right where it meets County Road 700 North, in Clinton County.

Dilden told investigators he was going about 80 miles an hour when he lost control, hit a culvert, catapulted into the air and slammed into some trees which hit a nearby house.

He was taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital to be checked out.

County Road 200 South was cleared by about 7:30 p.m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
