FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police said a shooting in a parking lot of a Fort Wayne bar led to a fatal crash early Saturday morning near Stellhorn and Hobson Roads. Officers said alcohol was a factor in the crash and have arrested a man in connection to the incident.

According to Fort Wayne Police Department spokesman Jason Anthony, around midnight police responded to Corner Pocket Pub on St. Joe Center Road, after witnesses reported hearing gunshots. Witnesses told police two cars sped out of the bar’s parking lot.

Police said three minutes later, a two-car crash was reported at Stellhorn Road and Hobson Road.

According to investigators, Jeremy D. Washington, 35, was speeding southbound and ran a red light at the intersection of Stellhorn Road and Hobson Road. His car hit another car driving eastbound on Stellhorn Road.

The driver of that car was unconscious and unresponsive when officers arrived, according to Anthony. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Washington was able to get out of his car, but his passenger was trapped. Washington was taken to the hospital in fair condition and his passenger was listed in serious condition as of Saturday morning.

Investigators said Washington and his passenger were involved in a fight at Corner Pocket Pub. One of the occupants in Washington’s car fired gunshots in the bar’s parking lot.

Investigators said alcohol was a factor in this fatal vehicle crash.

Police said around 20 minutes after the fatal crash, a man arrived at Parkview Randallia’s emergency room with gunshot wounds. The victim told police he was shot while he was in the parking lot of Corner Pocket Pub early Saturday morning. Officers said he was listed in serious condition as of Saturday morning.

Hobson Road between Stellhorn Road and Timberhill Drive was closed for more than five hours while investigators collected evidence.

Police arrested Washington on preliminary charges of operating while intoxicated causing death, aggravated battery and criminal recklessness causing serious bodily injury.

Anthony said the Allen County Coroner’s Office will release the crash victim’s identity following an autopsy.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the Allen County Coroner’s Office.
