Demonstrators warn Rokita about climate change

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Climate change was the topic of a demonstration held in downtown Lafayette Tuesday evening.

Volunteers with Organizing for Action held signs outside U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita’s office. They want the Republican 4th District congressman to read a recent report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The report expects to see damage to the environment through severe weather events and agricultural production losses.

Mal Atherton said it’s time Rokita listens.

“He denies that climate change is real or does not believe that it is caused by humans. We basically wanted to point out that this is no longer acceptable in 2014, when we are dealing with such a major issue around the world and here in Indiana,” said Atherton.

The demonstrators want Rokita and other politicians to develop new guidelines for carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.
