WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The Purdue women’s basketball team celebrated the 2013-14 season and honored its three seniors Tuesday night.

The news of the night came from head coach Sharon Versyp who shared with everyone in attendance that she’s been named the ESPN Big 10 Coach of the Year.

Versyp made her coaching staff and players stand up to be recognized for what she called a team award.

Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp reviewed the her eighth season back at her alma mater which resulted in a 22-9 record.

Several awards were announced Thursday evening. Liza Clemons was the recipient of the Coach’s Award given to the student-athlete that provides leadership, consistency, is coachable and a good teammate while serving as a role model in the community. The Most Improved Award was shared by Hayden Hamby and Camille Redmon while Whitney Bays was recognized with the Perseverance Award.

The banquet has been sponsored by the Lafayette Lions Club since 1987.
