CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) – A new road project will begin in Hamilton County Friday along a stretch of U.S. 31 in Carmel.
The project is part of a plan to improve the highway from Indianapolis to South Bend. The new phase of the project will produce bridge upgrades and roundabouts similar to what is already in place on Keystone Ave.
“One of the major reasons the state gave us $90 million to redo Keystone Avenue was that it could be used as a detour route for through traffic during the US 31 construction,” Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard told our sister station WISH-TV Friday.
Mayor Brainard said during the construction, big trucks will be allowed to use Keystone Avenue. But, a city ordinance says they won’t be allowed on Keystone Ave. after the work is done.
This phase of the project will be done by Thanksgiving.
