Fencing club duels for 24 hours for a good cause

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A few dozen high school students are fencing all night long Friday and then all day Saturday for a good cause.

The West Lafayette fencing club is holding a fencing marathon as a fundraiser for the Summer Backpack program to help provide food to needy families.

The 30 members of the club are hoping to raise at least $500 by fencing nonstop starting at 6 p.m. Friday all the way until 6 p.m. Saturday.

“I think it’s great. I’ve never really done anything like this before. I feel like helping out the community is the best thing to do and I wish I could do it more,” said Fencing Club President Alicia Cheng.

The public is welcome to by and watch Saturday and maybe drop off a donation. The event is open to the public from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at West Lafayette High School. Enter using the door on the south side of the school.
