COLUMBUS, Ind. (WISH) — The search for a missing kayaker was expected to continue Wednesday, after crews on Tuesday discovered a pair of shorts that might belong to the man.

Our sister station WISH-TV’s news partner The Republic reports that search crews found a pair of black shorts they think might belong to 24-year-old Enrique Quinonez of Kalamazoo, Mich. Quinonez has been missing since Sunday morning.

Although Quinonez was wearing black shorts the day he disappeared, Indiana Department of Natural Resources officials cautioned the shorts they found may not be his. They were checking with family members.

Quinonez disappeared Sunday when his kayak capsized in the Flat Rock River. His friend was able to make it to safety, but Quinonez wasn’t.

Quinonez was not wearing a life vest and it’s believed he can’t swim.

Experts said conditions weren’t favorable for kayaking on Sunday due to higher water levels in rivers from multiple days of rain in Central Indiana. Quinonez wasn’t an experienced kayaker and capsized soon after entering the river.
