LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – It’s a place that Lafayette leaders hope brings creative minds together to work under the same roof and now MatchBOX Coworking Studio is open.

“I think that MatchBOX is a big, bold move for this city,” Raygun Workshop founder and MatchBOX member Garrett Curry said.

An 80-year-old building has been completely transformed into a one-of-a-kind working space developed for the creative, entrepreneurs looking for an opportunity to have an affordable, consistent workspace.

“Right now we would still be doing business out of coffee shops,” Waypoint Concepts founder and MatchBOX member Matt Musgrave said.

“I spend as much money as it costs to be in here every month. I spend that in a week and a half worth of coffee migrating from shop to shop or whatever,” Curry said. “This place is incredibly accommodating for not only the work and production I have to do, but it’s also very accommodating to the client meetings that I always have to do.”

The new state-of-the-art nonprofit workspace already has about 25 members and can house about 100. Curry and Musgrave are already working together since becoming members of MatchBOX.

“It’s going to be absolutely great to just be right across from one desk to another to be able to say I have this problem. What is your perspective on this?” Curry said.

“If you were at home working in your home office, you wouldn’t bump into someone with the skill set that you need to overcome your problem or challenge,” MatchBOX operations manager Ashley Scott said.

Lafayette director of economic development Dennis Carson said the $1.5 million dollar investment is a way to keep bright minds in the community.

“A lot of people think that they can’t do their idea here in Lafayette and think they have to go to San Francisco, Boston, Chicago or some place, but no they can do it right here and there are other people here doing the same thing,” Carson said.

Members pay a one time fee of $99 and a monthly fee starting at $30 for 24/7 access to the co-working studio and conference rooms.
