Purdue Challenge 5K raises thousands for cancer research

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Hundreds of people lined up and took off running next to Ross-Ade Stadium Saturday morning for the Purdue Challenge 5K.

The annual event raises funds for the Purdue Center for Cancer Research.

Race organizers say this year’s event raised more than $65,000.

Jessica Patera of Lafayette was one of 1,700 people who decided to participate in the run. She said she was running in honor of her step-father Jim, who was recently diagnosed with brain cancer.

“For those that are fighting, we need to fight for them. We need to raise as much money as we can and just give as much support as we can,” said Patera.

Donations can still be made to the organization, if you would like to help, click here.
