WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue held a reunion Saturday night for some astronauts who are also former Boilermakers.
Seven former and current astronauts came together to talk to the public at Elliott Hall of Music. Purdue President Mitch Daniels as well as Purdue students asked the astronauts questions.
The astronauts, including Eugene Cernan the last man to walk on the moon, discussed the history and future of space travel.
They said they hope to inspire younger generations and encourage students to be curious.
Some of the astronauts also shared their scariest moments on the job, as well as fond memories of the late Neil Armstrong.
The program concluded with Daniels bestowing each astronaut with the Order of the Griffin Award, Purdue’s highest honor. The astronauts then surprised the president with a signed collage of photos from space.
