WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly is teaming up with Purdue on a defense bill that focuses on missile research.

Donnelly said Purdue’s engineering programs were a selling point when looking for a university affiliate. He said it’s in an area that the university already has a lot of government involvement.

“They have been doing a lot of research for our missile defense and for systems that can help keep our nation safe, so we are hopeful that Purdue’s role to grow because they’ve been so exemplary in the work they’ve done,” Donnelly said. “They are becoming a place of choice to get this work squared away.”

While at Purdue, Donnelly also spoke to leaders of the Military Family Research Institute about ways to help veterans returning from war and their families.

“Our obligation is to make sure that our warriors come home and get completely squared away and that they have someone to talk to and the families have someone to talk to as they reintegrate with one another,” Donnelly said.
