WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) – The Purdue women’s basketball team released its 2014-15 nonconference schedule on Wednesday, unveiling opponents and dates for most of its early season matchups. The Boilermakers will play at least six home games (not including the exhibition), including a three-game event in Mackey Arena in December, and will take a Thanksgiving-holiday trip to the Bahamas for the 2014 Junkanoo Jam.
“We’re excited about next year’s schedule, welcoming some great teams to Mackey Arena for our fans and getting the opportunity to go on the road and play a few other tough squads, both on their home floors and at some neutral sites,” said Purdue head coach Sharon Versyp.
The Boilermakers open the season with an exhibition game against Division II opponent Findlay University in Mackey Arena on Sunday, Nov. 9, and start the regular season the following weekend, Saturday, Nov. 15, at intrastate foe Ball State. The regular-season opener at Mackey comes against Summit League standout Wisconsin Green Bay on Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 7 p.m., followed by a home contest against Toledo on Sunday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m.
The schedule for the 2014 Junkanoo Jam has yet to be released, but the Boilermakers will play a pair of games on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28 in Freeport, Bahamas. The eight teams in attendance are the Boilermakers, Wisconsin, East Carolina, George Washington, Texas Tech, North Carolina State, Syracuse and South Carolina, and they will be split into a pair of four-team divisions.
Purdue will return to the U.S. for a Big Ten/ACC Challenge matchup, tentatively scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 4, but the Boilermakers’ opponent and location will not be revealed until a later date. Versyp takes the squad on the road to Dayton on Sunday, Dec. 7, with a game time to be announced, and return home for the first of four straight home games on Thursday, Dec. 11, against Big 12 foe Kansas.
The Boilermakers will host a pre-holiday event in Mackey Arena on Dec. 19, 20 and 21, welcoming Denver, Wright State and UC Irvine to the World Vision Classic. The four teams will play a round-robin competition over the weekend in what promises to be an outstanding three days of basketball in Purdue’s final action before the start of the Big Ten schedule.
As announced on Feb. 28, the Boilermakers will play an 18-game conference schedule, featuring five home and away pairings, four home contests and four games on the road. Purdue will play a pair of games with Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio State and Rutgers, while going on the road to Iowa, Maryland, Michigan and Nebraska, and welcoming Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State and Wisconsin to West Lafayette.
Updates will be made to the schedule as they become available over the summer.
