Teen faces charges after beating man with hammer

TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette teenager faces criminal charges after detectives said he used the handle of a hammer to hit another another man.

Edward Johnson, 18, faces three charges including battery and criminal recklessness. According to court documents, a victim was found by police with bruises on his face inside a Cambridge Estates apartment.

Officers said after they left, Johnson went back and beat the victim with a hammer handle a second time.

Johnson later told investigators the victim had tried to sell marijuana, got drunk and then tried to hit a woman. He told police it was a mistake and where to find the hammer.
