LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Columbian Park’s Memorial Island is getting a makeover.

About 40 volunteers from the Lafayette Parks Department and one volunteer from Subaru Indiana Automotive met at Memorial Island. Workers pulled out overgrown shrubs and hazardous trees and also did some landscaping.

Lafayette Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman said the work was part of a team-building day for the department.

“We’re going to have fun. We’ve come together as a staff to focus on a specific project and today’s project is to improve memorial island,” Laufman said.

Volunteers were able to clean up the area within a few hours. Laufman said it was exciting to see everyone come together to keep the park clean.
