Child pedestrian killed in Whiting

LAKE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – Police continue to investigate after a crash in Whiting, Ind. left a 12-year-old boy dead.

The Indiana State Police said the crash happened around 3:15 p.m. (CT) Wednesday on Indianapolis Blvd., just south of 119th Street, in Whiting.

ISP detectives said they are currently reviewing video footage obtained from area businesses. Troopers said it may help answer some of the questions surrounding the incident.

The driver of a semi, who was suspected as being involved in the hit and run accident, was questioned Wednesday night. But ISP said the driver has since been released because, at this point, no charges have been filed.

The semi remains impounded as officers complete a detailed inspection of the truck and trailer.

Indiana State Police said the investigation is ongoing.
