TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – Tippecanoe County’s first typical wind farm has a favorable recommendation from area planning staff.

The Board of Zoning Appeals is expected to vote on a special exception that would allow the farm at its meeting Wednesday night.

The project known as Purdue Energy Park would be located in the northwest portion of the county, about six miles north of Montmorenci, near the White County line.

As News 18 has already reported, the proposal would build a dozen towers which are 474 feet tall that would tie into existing Tipmont lines.

The project is a partnership with Purdue University which will have access to the turbines for research and data collection.

The only other turbines in Tippecanoe county are smaller ones located on CityBus property on Canal Road after the BZA granted a special exception in 2010.
