LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A mother and two children were taken to the hospital in a crash that snarled traffic for about an hour on a major Lafayette street Friday afternoon.

Lafayette police say Josh Robbins of Lafayette was westbound on McCarty Lane and tried to turn left into the Burberry Place apartment complex around 4:10 p.m. He pulled in front of a car driven by Zakiya Simmons which was eastbound just before the two cars collided.

Firefighters had to help pry open the doors to get everyone out. Simmons and her two daughters were taken to the hospital with pain complaints but were expected to be okay. Robbins was ticketed for failing to yield the right of way.

The road reopened around 5:15 p.m. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
