TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)- With about two weeks to go until the primary election, early voting numbers are up compared to past primaries.
As of Tuesday afternoon 243 people have voted early. Tippecanoe County Clerk Christa Coffey said that is ahead of the 2010 primary early voting numbers.
She said in 2010 the district four congressional seat was open, so that drew a lot of voters, but some heated races this year are drawing even more.
“I think definitely the sheriff’s race has gotten a lot of attention,” Coffey said. “Then, we do have three local judge races, then some township races. I don’t know where the attention is coming from, but it’s definitely driven out voters early.”
On Saturday, early voting will begin at the county’s four Payless Super Markets. Coffey said about 80 percent of the early voting comes from those sites.
