Woman sentenced after hitting two kids while drunk

CLINTON COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI)- On Wednesday, a judge sentenced Heather McDaniel to five years in the Department of Corrections and one year suspended probation after pleading guilty to two count of causing serious bodily injury while operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

McDaniel was accused of driving drunk in August of 2013, and hitting two children riding their bikes on State Road 39 in Clinton County

Restitution will also be paid. That amount has not been determined.

Clinton County Prosecutor Tony Sommer said the children are still receiving treatment for their injuries, and as of January their medical bills were more than $300,000.

Sommer said the two children and their mother spoke at the sentencing. McDaniel also spoke. Sommer described her demeanor as remorseful.
