Firefighters battle early morning fatal apartment complex fire

Crews battle S. River Road apartment fire.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Firefighters in Tippecanoe County battled a fire at an apartment complex at 202 of S. River Road early Thursday morning. According to West Lafayette Fire Department, there was one fatality and one person was sent to the hospital.  The identities have not been released.

Dispatchers said it was called shortly after 5:06 a.m. About eight apartments were involved.

Crews used an aerial gun to help put out the flames, and the fire was extinguished around 6:30 a.m.

Red Cross was on scene to assist firefighters.

Red Cross officials said several residents were displaced from their apartments and were taken to the Purdue Co-Rec.

The fire is currently under investigation by the West Lafayette Fire Department, West Lafayette Police Department, and the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s office.

The fire is not considered to be suspicious.
