One dead after two vehicle Carroll County crash


CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – One man is dead and his fiancée remains in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash in Carroll County Thursday evening.

Carroll County deputies said Zachary Butts of Tipton County was driving a minivan northbound on State Road 29. Investigators said Butts merged into the southbound lane to pass another vehicle when he collided with a minivan traveling southbound around 5:20 p.m. just south of Burlington.

Butts was airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital where he died from his injuries. His fiancée, Audrey Thompson, was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo before being airlifted to IU Health Methodist with critical injuries.

The four people in the other minivan were taken taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo with minor injuries.

The Indiana State Police crash reconstruction team was called to investigate the scene, delaying the road from reopening until 9:44 p.m.
