Students help plant trees on Arbor Day

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Despite Friday morning’s wet weather, West Lafayette residents were out planting trees to celebrate Arbor Day.

Purdue students and members of the community, including Mayor John Dennis, planted trees along the path at Trailhead Park.

Five trees were planted, one of which was in memory of a friend of the West Lafayette Parks and Recreation Department. Stewardship Director Dan Dunten said the planting has special meaning.

“So, these are trees that, again, you’re not planting them for yourself, you are planting them for future generations, and we’re always glad to do that,” said Dunten.

Dunten encourages everyone to plant a tree this Arbor Day. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
