Veterans get sweet treats from Girls Scouts

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Residents at the Indiana Veterans Home got a sweet treat from area girl scouts. The Girl Scouts of Central Indiana stopped by to hand out boxes of Girl Scout cookies as a part of Operation: Cookie Drop.

The program distributes more than 70,000 boxes of cookies every year to area veterans and military bases. Community members donate money for the cookies.

More than 100 boxes were given out at the Veterans’ Home. Girl Scout Jane Sovinski said she likes putting smiles on the Veterans’ faces.

“I thought it is a great opportunity to come here and give cookies to the people who served. To have young people come in and be smiling at them and giving them cookies, it brings them a lot of joy,” Sovinski said.

Besides the Veterans’ Home, Operation: Cookie Drop has delivered to Camp Atterbury in Southern Indiana and more than 60 National Guard Armories. The most popular cookie requested is, of course, Thin Mints. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
