LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Members of the community came to remember fallen workers as a part of Workers Memorial Day.

Those in attendance sang, remembered and prayed for laborers past and present. The event was sponsored by the Northwest Central Labor Council. Similar ceremonies were held across the nation. Organizers hope people will remember fallen workers and safety in the workplace beyond today.

“As we’ve always said, you know, somebody goes to work to earn a living they didn’t go to work to die. And what we need to do is limit the number,” said NCLC President, Dennis DeMay.

DeMay says that an average of 12 Americans die each day as a result of a work-related injury or illness. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
