WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A new Purdue exhibit gives visitors an interactive look at the inside of a mine located in Central America.

The exhibit was unveiled Tuesday afternoon at the Hampton Hall of Civil Engineering. Through a series of interactive displays, the exhibit shows how gold is extracted from the mine.

Department Head, Indrajeet Chaubey, of the Earth Atmosphere and Planetary Sciences said he hopes the exhibit inspires more students to study geological sciences.

“You can come and visually see. You can come and interact with how some of the art processes work to extract the sources that has resulted in so much affluence that we as a human society have got,” said Chaubey.

The exhibit took nearly two years to put together with donations coming primarily from Purdue alum William Reid. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
