Inaugural Day of Giving raises millions

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A 24-hour donation event gave people the chance to give back for the inaugural Purdue Day of Giving.

Purdue celebrated the event Wednesday afternoon with a cookout. Coach Darrell Hazell and other Purdue coaches came out in support.

As of midnight, more than 6,500 donors gave nearly $7.5 million towards Day of Giving.

Purdue Vice President of Development Amy Noah said the total donated has nearly tripled their event goal with a significant portion of donations have gone towards student aid.

“It’s been very positive. We do have a couple of people, who have been in contact with us, so we anticipate that we’re going to have a strong close for the next eight to 10 more hours here and we think that we’re going to be able to go pass that number in a pretty big way,” said Noah.
