Woman arrested at Dunes for trafficking to inmates

PORTER CO., Ind (WLFI) – Officers are investigating an incident of a woman who was attempting to drop off drugs and tobacco to a work release inmate.

Indiana Conservation Officers said Christy Chavez, 38, of Knox, Ind. was attempting to give a work release inmate synthetic marijuana and tobacco inside Indiana Dunes State Park on Tuesday.

Chavez was arrested after Indiana Department of Corrections officers noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area of where the inmates were working.

Chavez was taken to Porter County Jail on charges of trafficking a controlled substance, a Class C felony, to an IDOC offender from the Westville Correctional Facility.
