LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Regions Bank in downtown Lafayette is using the location of their old facility as a new parking lot.

The parking lot will be located on the southwest corner of Fifth and South Streets. Regions is now located at the corner of Fourth and South streets.

Branch sales manager Sheryl Koons said the additional parking will be for customers. She said it will avoid customers trying to find parking along downtown streets.

Lafayette Economic Development Director Dennis Carson said the bank will also be adding more green space along Alabama Street.

“They’ll be adding more green space, more vegetation and more trees around the area. It’ll be much nicer looking than the old parking lot that was around their former building. So, the whole block will really look much nicer than what it has in the past,” said Carson.

However, the additional green space will eliminate the Alabama Street entrance to the bank.

“They’re reconfiguring the entrances and exits and such. There will be better traffic flow in and around the site as well,” said Carson.

Koons said they plan on opening the new parking lot by the end of the month. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
