Free Comic Book Day at Von’s

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Saturday, May 3 is one of the best days of the year to be a comic book fan. That’s because it’s Free Comic Book Day.

Every first Saturday in May, comic book stores across the country offer free comics featuring some of the biggest names of today.

Paul Shelton and Nick Gaspar of Von’s Comics appeared on News 18 This Morning and say Von’s has participated in Free Comic Book Day for several years.

“It’s a day for customers to come in and pick up free comics. It’s a chance for companies to show what they’re doing for the next year, give out free samples, get people interested in books,” said Shelton.

In addition to the free comic books, Von’s will have a sale, giveaways and a costume contest.

“The big release from DC Comics is Future’s End. It’s the kickoff of an event that they’re gonna be doing weekly throughout the year and focuses on the Batman of the future,” said Gaspar, when asked about some of the biggest free comics available on Saturday.

Free Comic Book Day at Von’s Comics is from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The store is located at 319 W. State St. in West Lafayette.
