LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Derby Party was held in Lafayette on Saturday in honor of the Kentucky Derby.
Members of the Prelude Projects for the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra put on the celebration. The event took place from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, concluding with the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby.
Festivities included a raffle, a lady’s hat contest, a gentleman’s bow tie contest and cheering on the horses.
Prelude Projects hosted the event to raise money for the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra. Chair of Prelude Projects Erin Nelson said the event was more than just a fundraiser.
“It’s a fun event,” said Nelson. “We get people together, we celebrate the Derby and all of the fun things that go along with it. Hats being one, bow-ties being another, and we have some fun competitions also a raffle as well.”
This is the first year the Prelude Projects put on the event for the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra.
