Greater Lafayette celebrates tourism

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Food, live music and information on everything to do in the Greater Lafayette area was part of a tourism tailgate party.

The tailgate was held to celebrate National Tourism Week. Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette hosted the party Tuesday to celebrate tourism in the region.

President Jo Wade said tourism brings about 3.7 million visitors and more than $300 million dollars to Greater Lafayette every year. She said both numbers have a direct impact on events and attractions throughout the area.

“We have wonderful festivals. We have wonderful events. We have attractions like the Boilermaker Special and Purdue University. So, it’s important for people to understand that those visitors to the area bring dollars to the community,” said Wade.

The event was held at the Visitor’s Center. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
