CC defeats Delphi with late game heroics

DELPHI, Ind. (WLFI) – Central Catholic and Delphi traded the lead four times on Wednesday, but Central Catholic came out on top with a 7-4 win at Delphi Community High School.

Central Catholic took the lead in the seventh inning as the Knights scored six runs with two outs and held on for the victory. CC scored on a two-run single by Coy Cronk off Jason Sterrett, plating Jackson Anthrop and Adam Lovell.

Cronk racked up three RBIs on two hits for Central Catholic.

After scoring four runs on CC starter Hayes Cronk, the Oracle bats went quiet when Nate Wiercioch took over on the mound. Wiercioch held Delphi hitless over the final two innings, allowing no earned runs, walking none and striking out one.

Jason Sterrett was the game’s losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in 6 2/3 innings, walked three and striking out 11.

Central Catholic jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Jackson Anthrop doubled to ignite Central Catholic’s offense, before Cronk doubled, plating Anthrop.

After a quick strike from Central Catholic, Delphi responded with two runs in the first.
