WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A hotel at the corner of Tapawingo Drive and State Street has been in the works for about a year. The plans have already been approved by the Area Plan Commission and the West Lafayette City Council.
Now, West Lafayette is in the process of selling a peice of that land to the developer. Mayor John Dennis said since some of the land is public land certain steps had to be taken for it to be sold to the developer.
On Wednesday, one bid for the land was opened. The bid was from Shen LLC for $6,085.
Dennis said he likes the direction the piece of land is heading.
“Anybody that’s familiar with the history of West Lafayette remembers when that area was a junk yard,” Dennis said. “Since we put in Tapawingo Drive and the development at Wabash Landing, we have done everything we can to improve that. It truly is a gateway into our community, and this furthers that intention.”
The Board of Works will take the bid under advisement. If the members decide to accept the bid, it will happen at a later date.
The project is planned to be a Hampton Inn and Suites that will include more than 100 rooms and five stories.
