LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The McCutcheon High School Athletic Department announces that the contract for softball head coach Jim Bates will not be renewed for the 2014-15 school year. Coach Bates will remain in his current position for the completion of the 2014 softball season.
“We are grateful for the efforts that coach Bates has made placing McCutcheon softball on the map as one of the best softball programs in the State,” said McCutcheon athletic director Ryan Walden.
Coach Bates was inducted into the Indiana Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2008. During his tenure, he has won 572 games, one State Championship (2008), one State Runner Up (2005), 11 Sectional Championships, and seven Regional Championships. He has coached one Indiana Miss Softball (Tori Collins), two State Mental Attitude Award Winners (Heather Han in 2005 and Eliza Scanlon in 2007), 26 Indiana All-Stars, 14 Academic All-State Players, and 37 MHS softball players who continued their careers in college.
A search for his replacement will begin immediately with the goal of introducing a new coach to McCutcheon’s softball team by June 30.
