LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Lafayette officials are introducing the newest addition to Columbian Park.

The Columbian Park Express Train Depot was unveiled at a ceremony this afternoon. Dozens of people came out to see the new depot.

The depot took nearly a year and a half to build and is located at the center of the park. Parks superintendent Claudine Laufman said the depot is a great place for people to gather as they wait for the train.

“The train has a special place in everyone’s heart, who lives in Lafayette,” said Laufman. “I think adding a beautiful train depot, such as this, will really add to the memories and the memories of future generations to come.”

The depot also features a custom miniature train set. Laufman said the custom set was built by 12 volunteers, who spent more than 1,000 hours building it. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
