Blood drive honors two students

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A blood drive honored two people who lost their lives three years ago Saturday outside Walmart on State Road 26.

The third annual Daniel Knowles and Kelli Leitem Dedicated Blood Drive is dedicated to both individuals who passed away in 2011. Daniel passed away from a heroin overdose and Kelli from suicide. Both were students at Harrison High School.

The blood drive serves as a way for Daniel and Kelli’s families to honor the lives of their children and to give back to the local community.

“We think it’s a good way to serve the community and you never know when it’s going to be one of your loved ones that need blood. It can happen any time,” said Debby Leitem, Kelli’s mother. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
