WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A building which caught fire last year has been fixed and is planning to become one of West Lafayette’s newest restaurants.

The October fire was ruled accidental at the former Spurlock’s building that sits on N. River Road. Prior to Spurlocks’s, the building housed Capp & Gino’s.

West Lafayette Fire Chief Tim Heath told News 18 in October, at the time workers were finishing up laying new floor and a tarnished rag with flammable materials on it caught fire.

West Lafayette deputy building commissioner Jason Burks said the building’s owner Matt O’Neill filed a permit in November so he could repair the fire damage.

“In the stairwell, the back stairwell, there was a small little fire,” explained Burks. “There was a lot of smoke damage. He came in and remediated the whole place, and it looks really nice. He is getting there.”

In August, News 18 spoke to O’Neill who owns a restaurant in Bloomington, Ind. He said he hopes to create a nice, yet affordable, restaurant in West Lafayette.

No word yet on the name of the restaurant or when it will open.
