Canal season starts Saturday

DELPHI, Ind. (WLFI) – Celebrate the start of the canal season with the Transportation Heritage Festival at the Wabash and Erie Canal Park in Delphi.

The canal season is when visitors can take guided tours down the canal in “The Delphi.”

“‘The Delphi’ will be running this weekend,” said festival co-coordinator Liz Irwin when she appeared on News 18 This Morning. “We will also have different crafters. Everything will be handmade. The cooper will be there. He will demonstrate how to make handmade buckets. We have a blacksmith on hand.”

There will also be musical entertainment throughout the day and food vendors.

Visitors can also see the newly restored Gray Bridge while there.

The Heritage Transportation Festival is Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Wabash and Erie Canal Park at 1030 N. Washington St. in Delphi.

The canal season runs from May 17 to mid-October.
