OTTERBEIN, Ind. (WLFI) – He’s been called a national champion, but one Otterbein man prefers world record holder.
Michael McClure has been shooting his slingshot for about four years. McClure said he just woke up one day and decided he wanted to buy a slingshot.
Since then, he has practiced everyday — shooting between 50 and 500 shots.
Last June, McClure set a Guinness World Record — hitting 13 targets from 10 meters out within a minute. However, Mclure’s world record isn’t even close to his personal record of 18. McClure said he didn’t know there was a world record until watching a video.
“Somebody posted a video of the world record and I thought, ‘Man that guy’s not really that fast,’ so I started practicing and eventually I got to where I could shoot a lot more than he did. Just like anyone else, I wasn’t that good with it at first. But through lots and lots of practice, I got a lot better,” said McClure.
In addition to his world record, McClure has also won a national tournament.
