WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) — Purdue sophomore Chuk Enekwechi won the men’s hammer throw at the Big Ten Track and Field Championships.
The sophomore’s best throw of the day was 217 feet.
“I think it’s a big deal to open up strong. Especially, when you’re competing at home. My teammates came out a little late in the competition, and that’s when I really started to pop off,” Enekwechi said.
In the women’s hammer throw, senior Dani Bunch took second.
“Anytime you come up with a victory in the Big Ten, you know, it was a great day. Chuk executed well, so did Dani, Dani Bunch. She came in ranked seventh and finished second. Those are the upswings that we need, so that we can continue to be successful throughout this championship,” Purdue track and field coach Lonnie Greene said.
The Big Ten Championships continue through the weekend.
