LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Volunteers got up early Saturday morning to help make Lafayette a little more beautiful.
Clean Sweep is the annual community cleanup day for the City of Lafayette. Volunteers gathered Saturday to help prepare the city for the summer by picking up trash and debris. Participants were divided into groups to clean various areas of Lafayette.
Volunteer Kelley Henriott has been participating in Clean Sweep for the past several years, She said it is a way to show appreciation for the place they live.
“We love it here. We want to make sure that other people coming in can see how clean it is and that it’s a well kept city,” said Henriott.
Although Clean Sweep gets the city looking better, it is also about people coming together for a cause.
“I think that an event like this demonstrates that people are willing to help each other and keep our town clean and a nice place to live,” said volunteer Mark Cianciolo.
The group who collected the most trash Saturday will have their name added to the Clean Sweep trophy displayed in Lafayette’s city hall.
