WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Developer Alan White said it’s easier to take a building down than it is to build one. The demolition of the Bar Barry Liquors at 225 Northwestern Ave. started Monday and is expected to be complete on Tuesday.
White is the developer of the 225 Northwestern Ave. project. He said after demolition, crews will begin sewer work. Then, in the next 30 days construction of a five-story building will begin.
White said the building will have a floor for commercial space, and four floors of apartments.
In fact, the Bar Barry Liquors will fill a spot on the first floor of the new building.
“[It's] officially the first one we have signed and we can talk about,” White said. “We have other interests in the space. We will only have one other commercial space and we do have a few interested parties, but nothing secured yet.
When construction of the building starts both lanes on Northwestern Avenue will remain open. However, the lanes will be moved over meaning the number of parking spots along the site will be cut down.
White said 225 Northwestern Ave. will be fully constructed by the middle of next summer. Tenants will move in by fall of 2015.
