STOCKWELL, Ind. (WLFI) – Some Tippecanoe County elementary school students are putting their pencils down and getting their hands dirty.

More than 75 students at Cole Elementary School helped clean up Stockwell, Ind. on Tuesday afternoon. Students picked up trash and did a little landscaping around the town.

The program is part of Keep Stockwell Beautiful. Program chair Kris Ziller said it teaches kids the importance of community service.

“We’re hoping that the children will take this and through their whole life span, they become more responsible, more caring adults and also be good environmental stewards,” said Ziller

Students visit the town twice a year for cleanup.

During the last seven years of the program, Ziller said they’ve noticed less and less trash to pick up. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
