National motorcycle ride visits Indiana Veterans Home

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Nearly 150 riders participating in the National Veteran Awareness Ride stopped at the Indiana Veterans Home Wednesday for a cookout with nearly 100 residents.

The two week trip takes riders from California to Washington, D.C. Along the way, they visit more than 50 schools, hospitals and veterans homes.

The national coordinator of the ride Jerry Conner said it makes it easier to relate with veterans.

“It’s an honor for us to hold their hand. It’s an honor for us to joke with them. It’s an honor for us to learn about their past and learn about their experiences. Some of these folks don’t open up real easily,” said Conner.

This is the 10th year for the ride.

Riders have three more days of travel before their final stop in Washington, D.C.
