WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue University recognized the work of their faculty and staff with a big cookout Thursday afternoon.

More than 6,500 people came out to Memorial Mall for the 31st annual Spring Fling. Faculty and staff were treated to a free lunch with sandwiches, popcorn and beverages. Families were also invited to attend.

Spring Fling coordinator Carrie Hanson said it’s a great way to show faculty and staff how important they are to the university.

“We appreciate all that they do. They are dedicated to our students. They keep the students coming back every year. We need to show appreciation of folks,” said Hanson.

In addition to free food, the event held a car show, karaoke and a talent show.

Food Finders and the American Red Cross were also out at the event to accept donations.
