COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) — A central Indiana man who says a television message told him to kill his roommate has been sentenced to 60 years in prison for the woman’s death.
A Bartholomew County judge ordered the sentence Thursday for 37-year-old Ryan Klug. He pleaded guilty but mentally ill last month to murder charges for the November death of 26-year-old Adaobi Obih in the Columbus apartment they shared.
The Republic reports Judge Stephen Heimann described Klug’s actions in choking, stabbing and slashing Obih’s throat as a butchering.
Klug said he intended to appeal the sentence.
Klug told a psychiatrist that television voices told him to kill Obih, who was an engineer at Cummins Inc.
Her friends say Obih was sharing the two-bedroom apartment with Klug to save on expenses.
